It's Popcorn Time!!!

It's popcorn time. Sales have started. Contact your den leader for a form today, if you haven't already received one. Orders are due October 29th. No money is collected until Popcorn is delivered. The money earned during our popcorn sales will be used to benefit the pack. Funds have been used to help pay for Pinewood Derby, Pack Meeting Refreshments, Advancement patches and belt loops and outings.

New this year!! Have customers who don't really want to buy popcorn? Have them consider supporting scouting while supporting our troops at the same time. They can simply donate $25 and $25 of Popcorn Treats will be sent to the men and women serving in the Military.

There are is a variety of popcorns to choose from. All participating scouts will earn a 2007 Popcorn badge. Fill up your order form and earn an additional cool badge!

Attention Bears & Webelos......our first meeting will be Monday, September 10th @ 6:30pm. Meetings will be held at the Avoca Baptist Church. You will need to use the same entrance that was used during Sign-ups, however you will go upstairs to the top floor.

Parents, Please be sure to obtain your son's "Bear Handbook" right away. This is by far the most important thing they will need. Feel free to flip through the book and begin working on Achievements together at home. Most of the Achievements will be done at home, so there is no need to wait. I will however be tracking the scouts progress at each meeting. Your help is crucial to their success in Scouting. For your convenience, Four Seasons Sports in Bedford is a Distributor for BSA Supplies. Be sure to check there for your needs first, but you are always welcome to visit the Hoosier Trails Council Store north of Bloomington.

September is "CUB SCOUT EXPRESS" month! Look forward to learning a little about trains. There will be a hands on craft activity as well. I'm hoping that with some help from parents, our scouts can make an outing to French Lick's Historical Railroad Museum so the boys can learn more and even take a ride on the railroad!! Be sure to come to the first den meeting. We'll discuss details of the month to come!

Thank you all for coming out to our Round-up on August 27th! We enjoyed meeting all of you and hope you and especially your sons had fun!! Just a reminder that someone will be contacting you regarding the start of your sons Den Meetings, either by phone or email.

Please do not hesitate to contact any of us if you have any questions. Just a reminder, we still need a Tiger Cub Den Leader and many other committee members who will help make our pack run more efficiently and smoothly.

It's never too late to join scouting! Encourage your scout to invite a friend to join! We would love to have more boys and make the scouting experience even more fun for the boys!

YOUR ROLE AS A PARENT:

Cub Scouting encourages closeness to family. The program will give you opportunities to take part in activities with your son that you normally couldn't do. It provides a positive way for parent and son to grow closer together, and encourages you to spend quality time together. In this way, Cub Scouting is a program for the entire family, and your involvement is vital to the program's success.

Some specific things you can do to help your son in Cub Scouting are

Work with your son on projects
Help your Cub Scout along the advancement trail
Participate in monthly pack meetings
Attend parent-leader conferences
Go on family campouts with your son
Provide support for your son's den and pack

The Cub Scout years are developing years for young boys, falling between the dependence of early childhood and the relative independence of early adolescence. As he grows, your son will gain the ability to do more things "on his own," but at this stage of his development, your help is critical.

We can always use leaders, so if you think you can help, please let someone know at the meeting on Monday, Aug. 27! We are looking forward to an exciting year and would enjoy hearing new ideas! I have found over the years that our greatest obstacle is lack of communication. Please don't hesitate to ask questions or to share your opinion. We are hopeful that this weblog will encourage people to help our program grow!
